Liverpool businesses have their own stories

Different working days.
The same need for clarity.

Liverpool’s food and drink businesses, independent traders and creative community bring different questions to the table. We’ll take the time to understand how your business works and where the accounting support would help.

Cafés, restaurants, hospitality & independent retailers

A full room or a good weekend’s takings tells only part of the story. Stock, wages, rent, card fees and the timing of supplier bills all affect what is left.

From city-centre hospitality to a neighbourhood shop, we can discuss the bookkeeping, payroll and VAT support you need. Keep sales records, refunds and platform charges organised so the figures are useful when you make decisions.

Freelancers, creative studios & digital businesses

Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle is home to a creative and digital business community. Whether you work in a studio, shared workspace or from home, a project-based income can bring its own accounting questions.

Deposits, staged invoices, software subscriptions and subcontractor costs can arrive at different times. Talk to us about recording them properly, understanding project costs and planning for tax alongside the next piece of work.

Make the figures part of your plan

A busy month.
A clearer view of the next.

You can be busy and still wonder where the money went. Looking at what is coming in, what is committed and what needs setting aside gives you a better starting point.

  • Money you’re waiting for: unpaid invoices, staged payments and expected sales.
  • Costs already committed: wages, suppliers, rent, software and other regular bills.
  • Tax and your next step: expected liabilities, quieter periods or a planned hire.

Ask about cash-flow forecasts, management information and tax planning. We’ll agree the work and fee for the support you need.

A clear quote before we begin

Know what you’re
asking us to look after.

We’ll discuss your business, records and priorities, then agree a fixed fee for the services you need. You should understand what is included and how the work will be shared.

The first chat is completely free. Ongoing services and any additional work are priced and agreed before they begin.

What we’ll discuss with you

  • Your services: accounts, returns, bookkeeping, payroll and any agreed advice.
  • Your records: transaction volumes, complexity and catch-up work.
  • Your software: the systems you use and any separate subscription costs.
  • Your responsibilities: information, checks, approvals and deadlines.
  • Your contact: who is looking after the work and how updates will be shared.
If you’re ready for a different working relationship

Changing accountants
starts with a chat.

If you’re comparing accountants in Liverpool, tell us what you’d like to work better. We’ll look at your current arrangements and approaching deadlines before agreeing the handover.

  1. Tell us what matters

Talk through your business, priorities and any work that is outstanding.

  2. Agree the details

Confirm the services, fixed fee, responsibilities and proposed timing.

  3. Arrange the handover

With your permission, we’ll contact your previous accountant for records.

  4. Get settled in

Swift’s standard switching process is free. Catch-up work and fees owed to your previous accountant are separate. Timing depends on records, authorisations and outstanding work.

Understand what applies to you

Digital records.
Human support.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is being introduced in phases for sole traders and landlords. The first phase began in April 2026.

We can help check your position and discuss the software, records and updates involved. Start with how you keep your records now, and we’ll explain the next steps.

Check your MTD start date

6 April 2026
Qualifying income over £50,000 in 2024/25.
6 April 2027
Qualifying income over £30,000 in 2025/26.
6 April 2028
Qualifying income over £20,000 in 2026/27.

Qualifying income generally combines gross self-employment and property income before expenses. Eligibility and exemptions apply.

Check HMRC’s current guidance ↗

Keep VAT in view as sales grow.

Compulsory registration generally applies when taxable turnover exceeds £90,000 over the previous 12 months. There is also a test where you expect to exceed £90,000 in the next 30 days alone.

Ask about the effect on your prices, records and returns before assuming that a busy year changes nothing. Special rules and exceptions can apply.

Check the VAT registration rules ↗

Plan for payments on account.

Some Self Assessment taxpayers make advance payments towards their next bill, normally due on 31 January and 31 July. Exceptions apply.

Your first January bill can include the tax for the previous year and an advance payment towards the next. We can help you understand what your calculation means and plan ahead.

Before your first conversation

A few answers
to get you started.

Your circumstances may be a little different. Tell us what you need to know and we’ll help you find a clear next step.

Do you have an office in Liverpool?

Our office is in Tattenhall, Cheshire. We support Liverpool clients by phone, video and through our client portal. You can arrange an office visit or ask about a meeting at your business. We’ll agree the location, timing and arrangements with you in advance.

How much does an accountant in Liverpool cost?

Fees depend on the services you need, your transaction volumes and the condition of your records. We’ll discuss the work and agree a fixed fee before starting. Ask what is included, whether software subscriptions cost extra and how additional work is agreed. Your first chat is completely free, with no obligation to join.

Can you help me switch from my current accountant?

Yes. We’ll agree the service, fee and timing, then contact your previous accountant with your permission. Tell us about approaching deadlines and outstanding work at the start. Swift’s standard switching process is free; catch-up work and fees owed to your previous accountant are separate.

How will we communicate during the year?

You can contact the team by phone or email and arrange video or in-person meetings where helpful. We’ll explain who is handling your work and agree how information and updates will be shared. Existing clients can use the portal for documents and ongoing messages. Mention urgent deadlines when contacting us.

Do you work with freelancers and small limited companies?

Yes. We can discuss accounts, tax, bookkeeping and the practical records your business needs. For freelancers, that may include irregular project income and planning for tax. For company owners, it includes the reporting and accounting responsibilities of running a limited company. We’ll agree support around your circumstances.

Does Making Tax Digital for Income Tax apply to me?

It depends on your qualifying gross self-employment and property income for the relevant tax year, together with eligibility and any exemption. The phased start dates are shown above. We can help check your position and discuss suitable software, record keeping and responsibilities for the required updates.

Check HMRC’s current MTD guidance ↗

When do I need to think about VAT registration?

Ask as taxable turnover approaches the threshold or before a large contract changes your position. The rolling 12-month test and next-30-days test work differently, and special rules may apply. We can discuss registration and its effect on your prices, records and returns.

Check the current VAT registration rules ↗

Why might my first Self Assessment bill be higher than expected?

If payments on account apply, your first January bill can include the tax you owe for the previous year plus an advance payment towards the next. Your calculation and circumstances determine the amounts. We can explain the bill and discuss planning for future payments. Check the official guidance for exceptions.

Read HMRC’s payments-on-account guidance ↗

Can you help if I receive rental income as well as a salary?

Yes. Tell us about all your income sources and how the property is owned. We can discuss the records and returns you need, relevant expenses and whether Making Tax Digital applies. If you are planning to buy, sell or change ownership, raise that before committing so the tax questions can be considered.

What if my records are behind or HMRC has contacted me?

Get in touch with an outline of what is outstanding and the dates on any relevant letter. You don’t need perfectly organised records for a first conversation. We’ll assess the work, explain how we can help and agree the fee and next steps. Mention an approaching deadline straight away.

Your questions are welcome here

What would make
things easier for you?

More time for your work. A clearer understanding of tax. Someone to ask before making a decision. Tell us what you’d like your accountant to help with.

We’ll listen, talk through the support available and explain what happens next. You don’t need everything worked out before you begin.
